2007-S Doubled Die Reverse DDR-005
Error
Description
Sharing its diagnostic location with DDR-002 but originating from a distinct working die, DDR-005 on the 2007-S proof Wyoming State Quarter also presents medium spread on the horse's mane under the saddle horn. The key differentiator lies in die identification: DDR-005 carries markers UVC-1884 and DMR-007, contrasting with DDR-002's UVC-1719 and DMR-004. These codes confirm that two separate reverse dies developed visible doubling in the same mane area — likely because the same misaligned working hub impressed multiple dies before the error was corrected. Three die states are documented: Stage A with reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B in Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). The Wyoming State Quarter's bucking horse design, with its deeply sculpted mane beneath the saddle horn, makes the area susceptible to showing hub displacement. Struck as a copper-nickel clad proof at the San Francisco Mint. When examining proof Wyoming quarters, always check the UVC code to distinguish DDR-005 from DDR-002, as the doubled area alone cannot differentiate between the two varieties.
