2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

Struck with the satin finish applied to coins in 2005-2010 United States Mint uncirculated sets, this Position A 2007-P George Washington Presidential Dollar carries the same WDDR-008 die variety showing doubling where the second clockwise ray from Liberty's head intersects her right arm. Position A indicates the incused edge lettering reads normally when the obverse (Washington portrait) faces up. The satin finish — a special matte-like texture produced by burnishing the blanks and using laser-textured dies — distinguishes these coins from standard business strikes and gives them a distinctive soft luster prized by collectors. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge near the rim above the G in GEORGE and a short die crack running west to east north-northeast of Washington's left eye (viewer's right). No significant reverse markers were noted.
