2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Bearing the primary DDR designation for the date, this 2007 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent shows doubled die characteristics on the reverse design. As WDDR-001, it represents the first cataloged reverse doubled die for the 2007-P cent, a distinction that places it at the top of the variety hierarchy for this date. The obverse carries a die gouge north of the 7 in the date as its primary attribution marker. On the reverse, a small die gouge appears below the ES in STATES, additional die gouges sit northeast of the designer's initials, a short die scratch runs north-northwest from the top of the left side of the left cornice, and a die crack descends down the first column of the Lincoln Memorial. The combination of the column die crack and the cornice die scratch gives this variety two structural markers tied to the architectural elements of the Memorial design. As one of the later Lincoln Memorial cent issues before the series ended in 2008, doubled die varieties from 2007 represent some of the last opportunities to collect this error type within the beloved Memorial reverse design that ran for nearly fifty years.
