2007 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Cataloged as UVC-2991 / DMR-004 by VarietyVista, the 2007 DDR-002 is a Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent showing medium spread to the east, creating an extra column #6 from the elbow to the shin. As the second cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2007 date, DDR-002 represents one of the earliest discoveries for this penultimate year of the Memorial reverse design. Column #6 eastward doubling in the elbow-to-shin zone captures the middle portion of the column adjacent to Lincoln's seated torso, requiring focused examination of the area between the arm and the lower leg on the statue's left side. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the secondary column image should display the crisp definition characteristic of a die that had not yet accumulated significant production wear. The 2007 Philadelphia cent mintage of approximately 3.76 billion pieces represented one of the final large-scale production years for the Memorial reverse before its replacement by the Lincoln Bicentennial designs in 2009. Late-date Memorial cent DDRs like the 2007 varieties are actively sought by collectors completing comprehensive sets of the series.
