2007 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001
Error
Description
Opening the VarietyVista doubled die reverse catalog for the 2007 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-001 shows medium spread Northwest visible as an extra column at position number 7, extending from the elbow to the shin of the seated Lincoln figure, with an extra knee appearing above and between the existing knees. Tracked under UVC-2990 and DMR-003, three die stages have been documented for this die pair. The northwest spread creating ghost images of both a column and the statue's knee represents one of the more visually distinctive forms of Memorial interior doubling, as the displaced elements overlap with adjacent architectural and figural features in ways that are detectable under moderate magnification. The 2007 date is the penultimate year of the Lincoln Memorial Cent reverse — the design would serve one final year in 2008 before yielding to the four 2009 Bicentennial reverses. As the first cataloged DDR for 2007-P, this variety represents the initial discovery that launched systematic documentation of doubled dies for the date, typically followed by additional finds as variety specialists expanded their searching efforts.
