2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009
Error
Description
Exhibiting Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the Lincoln Memorial reverse, the 2007 WDDR-009 shows doubling on the central left side of the 7th Memorial column, along with a partial extra knee visible just above the statue's left knee inside the Memorial. Class VIII doubling results from a slight angular tilt of the hub relative to the die during the hubbing process, producing localized displacement rather than the uniform spread seen in other doubling classes. Cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-VIII, this is the primary Class VIII doubled die reverse cataloged for the date. Obverse die markers include a long die scratch that runs from the bottom of the bust to the rim, a die scratch from the top of the B in LIBERTY extending southeast toward the bust, and a short die scratch below the lower I in IN. No significant reverse die markers were noted beyond the doubling itself. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2007 1' WDDR-009, this variety appears on one of the final years of the Lincoln Memorial reverse, which ended production in 2008 after nearly fifty years of continuous use since its 1959 introduction. Die Markers: Obverse: A small die gouge (dot) can be found above and between the T and Y of LIBERTY. Reverse: A small die gouge can be found inside the lower E of CENT.
