2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

The 2007 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-008 carries cross-references to Crawford CDDR-009 and CONECA 3-R-VIII, and is cataloged by the Wexler team under Variety ID 2007 1¢ WDDR-008. The doubling is visible on the seventh Memorial column to the right of Lincoln's statue legs — a subtle but consistent displacement that persists across die stages. Obverse die markers include a die gouge south of the date, a die scratch northeast of the ball of the bust, and a horizontal die scratch running east from the O of ONE. Reverse die markers include a die gouge in the Memorial steps below the G of GOD, a die gouge east of the upper right of the T of TRUST, and a horizontal die scratch south of the T of CENT. The Lincoln Memorial Cent, with its detailed architectural reverse designed by Frank Gasparro, provides numerous reference points for identifying and confirming die doubling. The seventh-column doubling on WDDR-008 is best observed under magnification with raking light to reveal the displaced secondary impression against the coin's field. A die crack runs down the lower half of the E in CENT and out to the rim.
