2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as Coppercoins 2007P-1DR-003 with Wexler Variety ID 2007 1c WDDR-004, this doubled die reverse on the 2007 Lincoln Memorial Cent presents doubling on the left side of the 7th column to the right of the statue's left arm, plus an extra knee between the tops of the statue's knees inside Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial rendering. No significant obverse die markers were noted, while the reverse shows a light "wavy steps" variety pattern, a small die gouge (dot) to the right of the N in CENT, and light die scratches running ENE from the top of the first T in STATES. The doubled extra knee — where a secondary impression of the seated Lincoln statue creates an apparent additional knee between the two normal knees — is a particularly evocative manifestation of hub doubling on Memorial Cents, as it produces an anatomically incorrect but immediately recognizable anomaly in the statue's figure. Combined with the column doubling, this creates a two-feature diagnostic: both architectural and figural elements carry visible displacement.
