Description

Sharing the same WDDR-018 designation as its Position B counterpart, this 2007 Philadelphia George Washington Presidential Dollar in Position A edge lettering exhibits identical reverse die doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from Liberty's head and the Statue of Liberty's right arm. Attributed by the Wexler Team, the obverse markers mirror the Position B listing: die gouges to the right of the lower T and bottom of the N in WASHINGTON. The reverse carries a small die gouge centered between the F of OF and the first A of AMERICA. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2007-P $1 GW WDDR-018. The matching WDDR designation across both edge positions indicates the same reverse die was used with obverse dies bearing different edge lettering orientations, confirming that edge lettering was applied as a separate post-striking operation independent of the face die pairing. This die-sharing across positions provides production process evidence: the doubled reverse die produced coins that subsequently received either Position A or Position B edge inscriptions. The Presidential Dollar series' three-step striking process created unique cataloging considerations not encountered on traditional two-die coins.
