Description

Sharing the same WDDR-016 catalog designation as its Position B counterpart, this 2007-P George Washington Presidential Dollar was struck from a Position A die — identified by edge lettering that reads upright when the obverse faces up. The doubling appears at the identical location: the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the Statue of Liberty's head and the statue's right arm on Don Everhart's common reverse design. Position A and Position B refer to the orientation of the incuse edge lettering (IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, date, and mintmark) relative to the coin's faces — a distinctive feature of the Presidential Dollar series creating two collectible orientations for each variety. Attributed by the Wexler Team under variety ID 2007-P $1 GW WDDR-016, both sides are in early die state with no significant die markers noted. No cross-references to other attribution systems are currently known. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in manganese brass clad composition, the Presidential Dollar series launched in 2007 with Washington as the inaugural issue honoring deceased presidents in order of service. Examine the intersection of the second clockwise ray and the right arm on the reverse, and confirm Position A edge lettering by checking that inscriptions read upright when the obverse faces up.
