2007 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-013

Description

This 2007 Philadelphia Mint George Washington Presidential Dollar exhibits the WDDR-013 doubled die reverse, struck with Position A edge lettering orientation. The doubling is located at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty, identical to its Position B counterpart since the same die pair produced both edge lettering orientations. Die markers include die gouges to the left and right of the top of the A in STATES and a small die gouge to the left of the upper first A in AMERICA, with the obverse in Early Die State. Attributed by the Wexler Team. Position A designates the opposite edge lettering orientation from Position B, determined by which direction the incused date, mintmark, and motto face relative to the obverse. Presidential Dollar edge lettering was applied after striking, so the same doubled die variety appears on coins with either orientation.
