Description

Sharing the same WDDR-012 catalog designation as its Position B counterpart but occurring on a Position A die pairing, this entry on the 2007-P George Washington Dollar documents the identical doubled die reverse married to a different obverse die. Position A and Position B refer to the orientation relationship between the obverse and reverse dies in the coining press, and the same reverse die can be paired with multiple obverse dies during its working life, creating distinct die marriages that warrant separate catalog entries. The doubling appears at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from Liberty's head and her right arm. Die markers are EDS on both sides with no significant secondary diagnostics noted. Cross-reference: Wexler Variety ID: 2007-P $1 GW WDDR-012. Attributed by Wexler Team. Philadelphia Mint production. Documenting both die position pairings preserves the complete production history of this reverse die and provides collectors with two distinct die marriages to pursue for the same underlying variety.
