Description

Sharing the same reverse die variety as its Position B counterpart, this Position A example of the 2007-P George Washington Presidential Dollar WDDR-009 displays identical doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the head and the right arm of the Statue of Liberty. The difference lies in the edge-incused lettering orientation: Position A coins read upright when the obverse (Washington portrait) faces up, while Position B reads upright with the reverse facing up. This orientation distinction arises from how planchets enter the edge-lettering die — the same obverse and reverse die pair can produce both positions depending on which side of the planchet faces up during the edge-incusing process. Both obverse and reverse are documented in early die state with no significant die markers noted. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2007-P $1 GW WDDR-009, this variety demonstrates that a single doubled die reverse can appear in both edge lettering positions, since the reverse die is independent of the edge-lettering process. Struck in manganese brass clad over a copper core at 8.1 grams and 26.5mm diameter at the Philadelphia Mint. Examine the same ray-arm intersection as the Position B coin — the doubling diagnostic is identical, with only the edge lettering orientation differing.
