2006-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006
Error
Description
Presenting a medium westward spread that produces an extra column at position seven extending from the shoulder to the foot of the Lincoln statue, this 2006-D Memorial cent variety was attributed by VarietyVista with die classification UVC-3068 and marker reference DMR-008. The die progressed through at least three stages: Stage A in early die state remains unconfirmed, Stage B developed a die chip on the middle of column two while both obverse and reverse reached mid die state, and Stage C in late die state also remains unconfirmed. The die chip on column two at Stage B provides a valuable secondary diagnostic for dating the die's progression and authenticating specimens. Struck at the Denver Mint just two years before the Memorial reverse design concluded its fifty-year run in 2008, this DDR-006 falls among the later-dated Memorial cent varieties. The westward spread direction on column seven creates a shadow column effect to the left of the primary column, and the shoulder-to-foot extent makes this one of the longer bar manifestations found among Memorial reverse doubled dies.
