2006-D Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003
Error
Description
Listed by VarietyVista as UVC-2988 and DMR-005, DDR-003 of the 2006-D Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits medium doubling spread to the west, producing an extra column 7 visible from the elbow down to the foot of the Lincoln statue. This creates a distinctive ghost column alongside the original, offering a clear visual diagnostic. The die stage progression includes an unconfirmed Stage A in early die state; Stage B in early-to-mid die state, marked by a die chip at the top of column 11 with the obverse also in EMDS; and unconfirmed stages C and D in mid and late die states respectively. The Stage B die chip at column 11 is the primary confirmed attribution marker. An extra column generated by westward hub doubling is one of the more dramatic manifestations possible on the Memorial reverse design, because columns are prominent vertical elements where even moderate displacement becomes readily apparent. The 2006-D cent was struck at the Denver Mint in the final years of the Memorial reverse before its replacement in 2009.
