Description

Carrying the distinction of first cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2006 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-001 displays very strong spread creating extra horizontal steps in the base of the Lincoln statue within the Memorial. Rather than the column doubling that dominates Memorial cent DDR catalogs, this variety targets the stepped platform beneath the seated Lincoln figure, where horizontal lines reveal hub displacement with clarity. Very strong spread indicates substantial separation between primary and secondary images — visible without high magnification and among the most pronounced doubling on modern Memorial cents. Die markers UVC-3285 and DMR-002 provide the attribution references. Stage A documents the obverse in Early Die State and the reverse in Early-to-Mid Die State. As DDR-001, this variety holds the primary position in the 2006-D doubled die reverse catalog, the benchmark against which subsequent discoveries for this date are compared. Denver Memorial cents from this era were struck in enormous quantities on copper-plated zinc planchets, and the very strong doubling makes DDR-001 one of the more visually impressive entries in the late Memorial cent series.
