2006-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

This 2006 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent WDDR-008 exhibits doubled die reverse characteristics focused on the Memorial's interior, with doubling on the lower right side of the sixth column to the left of the statue's legs and extra knee impressions to the left of each foot. These interior details — columns, the standing Lincoln statue, and moldings — are among the finest engraved elements on Gasparro's reverse, sensitive to even minor hub displacement. A short vertical die gouge in front of Lincoln's hair curl on the obverse provides a diagnostic marker. The reverse carries additional markers: a die crack and small die chip along the left side of the upper first column, and a fine east-west die scratch connecting the upper wreath medallions above the tenth and eleventh Memorial columns. Cross-referenced as Wexler 2006-D 1-cent WDDR-008. Struck in copper-plated zinc, the 2006-D cent was produced during the penultimate period of Memorial reverse production. Denver's high-volume output employed numerous die pairs, and eight documented doubled die reverses for this single date reflects ongoing discovery efforts.
