Description

Doubling appears below the right end of Wizard Island on this 2005 Proof Oregon State Quarter, referencing the Crater Lake design that depicts the volcanic caldera's iconic island landmark. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2005-S 25c Pr OR WDDR-010, and cross-referenced as Crawford CDDR-003 and CDDR-005. The "Pr" and "S" mint mark confirm this as a San Francisco proof strike. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge in the hair curls to the right of the top of the forehead and a small die gouge (dot) in the hair near the center of the back of the head. On the reverse, a vertical die scratch appears above the left end of the top of the 5, and a vertical die scratch sits to the left of the R in PLURIBUS. The dual Crawford cross-references (CDDR-003 and CDDR-005) suggest this die was documented under two separate entries in the Crawford catalog before being unified. Proof State Quarter doubled dies from the America the Beautiful predecessor series are sought by specialists pursuing attributed varieties across all fifty state designs.
