2005 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-015
Error
Description
Attributed by Kenneth Russell and cross-referenced as CDDR-026 and CONECA DDR-023, this 2005-P Ocean in View Jefferson Nickel WDDR-015 belongs to the Westward Journey Nickel Series commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Ocean in View reverse, designed by Joe Fitzgerald, depicts the Pacific coastline as seen by the Corps of Discovery. Reverse die markers provide the diagnostic anchors: slanted die scratches appear near the upper left of the I in PLURIBUS extending west-northwest, and additional slanted scratches mark the upper portion of the R in PLURIBUS. These patterns are unique to this die and serve as reliable attribution points. The CDDR-026 and CONECA DDR-023 designations provide independent confirmation across two major attribution systems. As a Philadelphia Mint business strike in copper-nickel composition, this coin was produced for general circulation during the Westward Journey series that introduced four new reverse designs across 2004-2005.
