2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-016
Error
Description
Exhibiting a medium spread to the east with slight counterclockwise rotation, the 2005 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-016 produces an extra column — column number 6 — spanning hand to foot on the Memorial's facade. Cataloged as UVC-3004 and DMR-018, this variety was documented by VarietyVista across four die states. Stage A presents both reverse and obverse in early die state. Stage B shows the reverse advancing to mid-die state with a light die crack on the forehead and a crack in the hair accompanied by one medium die chip. Stage C continues the pattern with a medium forehead crack and the hair crack now joined by two medium die chips. Stage D in late die state remains unconfirmed. The extra column effect — where doubling creates the illusion of an additional architectural element — is among the most visually dramatic forms of doubled die variety on Memorial Cents. This type of spread doubled die became a signature collectible of the Lincoln Memorial Cent series, which concluded in 2008, making late-series varieties like this 2005 issue part of the final generation.
