2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-004

Description

Standing out among Lincoln Memorial Cent doubled die reverses for its strong spread intensity, this 2005 Philadelphia Mint DDR-004 from VarietyVista shows a northwest-directed displacement creating an extra column at position seven from knee to foot, with a left foot visible between the legs of the Lincoln statue. Cross-referenced as UVC-2848 and DMR-006, the "strong" classification indicates more pronounced doubling than the "medium" or "light" spreads typical of many Memorial cent DDRs, making this variety easier to detect under magnification. Stage A is documented with early die state on both obverse and reverse, while Stage B and Stage C remain unconfirmed at mid-die and late die states respectively. The northwest spread direction combines both upward and leftward hub displacement, creating ghost images offset diagonally from the primary design elements. With the Lincoln Memorial design entering its final years — production ceased after 2008 — the 2005 date represents one of the later opportunities for DDR varieties within this iconic fifty-year reverse design.
