2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-040

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista as DDR-040 with die marker references UVC-3191 and DMR-042, this doubled die reverse variety was struck on a 2005 Lincoln Memorial cent at the Philadelphia Mint. The 2005 cent was produced in the copper-plated zinc composition adopted in 1982, weighing 2.5 grams with a 19 mm diameter and a plain edge. The 2005 date is notable as one of the final years of the Lincoln Memorial reverse design, which would be replaced by four different reverse designs in 2009 and then the Union Shield reverse beginning in 2010. The doubling on DDR-040 manifests as medium spread to the west, appearing as an extra column number 7 — from shoulder to knee — on Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse.
