Description

Sharing a West-side column #7 spread direction with DDR-036 but differing in its vertical extent, DDR-038 shows medium spread from the shoulder down to the knee rather than extending to the shin. This shorter doubling range places the secondary column line on approximately the upper two-thirds of column #7 — the westernmost column on the Lincoln Memorial reverse — with the ghost image fading out at knee level. Distinguishing DDR-038 from DDR-036 (shoulder-to-shin) and DDR-048 (shin-to-pedestal) requires careful measurement of where the extra column line begins and terminates relative to the architectural features of the Memorial design. Die stage documentation spans three states: Stage A at Early Die State, Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). The medium classification means the spread is visible under standard magnification without requiring extreme loupe power. Among the cluster of 2005 Philadelphia column DDRs, these shoulder-to-knee varieties occupy a middle position in terms of doubling extent, shorter than full-column spreads but more substantial than pedestal-only varieties.
