Description

Twenty-eighth VarietyVista doubled die reverse for the 2005 Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-028 presents a medium spread east visible as an extra column number 6 from knee to pedestal. Die markers UVC-3179 and DMR-030 identify the specific die. Die state documentation shows Stage A with both reverse and obverse at Early Die State, Stage B at Mid Die State unconfirmed, and Stage C at Late Die State unconfirmed. The eastward displacement on column 6, confined to the knee-to-pedestal range, indicates that only the lower portion of the sixth column shows detectable doubling on this die — the displacement was insufficient to produce visible separation in the upper column segment. The 2005 date was the forty-sixth year of the Memorial reverse and the third-to-last before the design concluded in 2008. Lincoln Memorial Cents struck in 2005 were produced at both Philadelphia and Denver, and the continued discovery of doubled die varieties on these late-issue dates demonstrates that the hubbing process remained susceptible to misalignment throughout the Memorial reverse's entire production span. Column 6, positioned immediately to the left of the seated Lincoln statue, is the second most frequently doubled column after column 7, and eastward spreads on column 6 complement the more common westward spreads on column 7 in documenting the full range of hub displacement directions observed across the series.
