2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-022

Description

Twenty-second documented doubled die reverse for the 2005 Lincoln Memorial Cent, this VarietyVista variety also presents the distinctive extra column number 7 pattern, showing medium westward spread from the elbow to the pedestal within the Memorial design. Die markers UVC-3114 and DMR-024 distinguish this die pair from the other DDRs sharing similar doubling characteristics for this date. Stage A shows both reverse and obverse in early die state, while mid-die and late die states remain unconfirmed. Column 7 on the Memorial reverse was particularly susceptible to creating visible doubled images because of its position — the vertical architectural element provides a high-contrast reference line where even modest lateral displacement becomes readily apparent. Multiple DDRs showing extra column 7 for the same date does not indicate they are the same variety; each carries unique die markers (different UVC and DMR codes) that confirm they originate from separate working dies that independently developed doubling during the hubbing process. The 2005 Philadelphia Mint produced hundreds of millions of cents, consuming numerous die pairs and statistically guaranteeing that a percentage would exhibit detectable hubbing misalignment. DDR-022 and DDR-039 represent two of nearly forty varieties in this one year.
