2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-017

Description

A furniture-element doubled die reverse on the 2005 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent, DDR-017 is recorded by VarietyVista as UVC-3028 / DMR-019. This variety exhibits strong spread to the east, producing an extra arm rest visible between the legs of Lincoln's chair — one of the more unusual doubling targets on the Memorial reverse. While most Memorial DDRs affect the vertical columns, furniture doubling involves the curved and horizontal elements of the presidential chair, and the strong spread classification indicates the secondary arm rest image is clearly separated from the original. Confirmed at Early Die State (Stage A), the bold doubling should be readily apparent under magnification on well-preserved specimens. Chair-element doubling occurs because the arm rests, seat, and legs of Lincoln's furniture occupy the central recess of the die where fine detail is most susceptible to hub misalignment. The 2005 Philadelphia cent mintage of approximately 3.94 billion provides the vast production base from which such die-specific varieties emerge as scarce collectibles.
