2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-010

Description

Tenth cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2005 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-010 is documented by VarietyVista under UVC-2907 and DMR-012. Three die stages have been recorded, providing collectors with documentation of this die pair's condition from early through late service life. The Lincoln Memorial Cent was entering its final years of production when this die was manufactured, with only three more years of Memorial reverse coinage remaining before the 2009 Bicentennial redesign. Gasparro's Memorial reverse, with its colonnade of twelve columns, the seated Lincoln statue, and the architectural details of the building facade, continued to yield new doubled die discoveries throughout the 2000s even after decades of production. Hub doubling on Memorial reverses most commonly appears on the columns, the statue, the cornice and steps, and the inscription lettering — all areas where fine detail was susceptible to displacement during the die manufacturing process.
