Description

Light spread in a northeast direction manifests as an extra left knee on the Lincoln Memorial statue, making this seventh doubled die reverse for the 2005 Lincoln Memorial Cent one of the more visually distinctive DDRs in the late-Memorial era. Die markers include UVC-2904 and DMR-009, with three documented die stages: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B in mid die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The doubling on the statue's knee area is particularly notable because the Lincoln Memorial reverse — designed by Frank Gasparro and introduced in 1959 — includes the tiny seated Lincoln figure visible through the Memorial's central opening, and doubling in this area requires careful magnification to identify. The 2005 date was the penultimate year before the Memorial reverse ended in 2008, and the number of documented DDRs for this date reflects the enormous production volume of the final Memorial Cent years. Cataloged by VarietyVista, DDR-007 contributes to the extensive record of doubled die varieties that characterize the Lincoln Memorial Cent series, which produced more documented die varieties than any other U.S. coin design during its nearly fifty-year run.
