Breaking decisively from the cent-dominated spiked head catalog, SKH-25c-2005P-01(KS) documents the first cataloged spiked head on a State Quarter: the 2005 (P) Kansas State Quarter, whose reverse features a bison standing in profile against a field of sunflowers. Spiked heads on quarters are dramatically rarer than on cents, partly because quarter dies operate under different pressure parameters and partly because researchers have historically focused spiked head attention on the Lincoln cent series.
