Description

Deep within the VarietyVista catalog at UVC-1624 and DMR-043, DDR-040 is a doubled die reverse on the 2005 Jefferson Bison Nickel showing light spread directed southwest on the third branch of the right tree. This is a business strike variety. Stage B at Mid Die State reveals complex die deterioration: a large die break above FIVE, a die break on the lower N of CENTS, a die gouge above the T of CENTS, die gouges under the R of AMERICA, a die crack under RIBU of PLURIBUS, and a die crack from the mountain range through UN of UNUM to the rim. The obverse is also at Mid Die State. Stages A and C remain unconfirmed. The extensive clustering of breaks, gouges, and cracks across virtually every reverse legend element suggests severe deterioration before documentation — the crack from mountains through UNUM to the rim traces roughly half the reverse diameter. DDR-040's high catalog number reflects intensive variety research on the single-year Bison design.
