2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-014

Description

Featuring very strong spread, DDR-014 on the 2005-P Jefferson Nickel — Bison reverse shows doubling appearing as a portion of a wave and the lowest left branch of the right tree visible in the field above. The "very strong" classification places this among the more visually dramatic doubled die reverses in the Westward Journey Nickel Series census. Cataloged as UVC-1572 with DMR-017, Stage A documents the reverse in early die state with a diagnostic die gouge dot positioned under the W of WE in early die state. This variety is found on Satin Finish coins exclusive to 2005 Mint Sets — the special matte-like surface treatment applied to coins in Uncirculated Mint Sets from 2005 through 2010, distinct from both standard business strikes and proof finishes. The Bison reverse, part of the 2004-2005 Westward Journey program honoring the Lewis and Clark expedition, depicts an American bison rendered by Jamie Franki.
