Description

Attributed by VarietyVista on the 2005 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel with the Westward Journey Bison reverse, DDR-013 shows very strong spread as a portion of the lower two left branches and intervening trunk of the right tree appearing in the field above their normal position. The Bison reverse, designed for the Westward Journey Nickel Series, features an American bison flanked by trees and terrain — and these tree elements produce distinctive doubled die signatures when hub misalignment occurs during die production. Cataloged with UVC-1571 and DMR-016, the Stage A early die state also shows an obverse in early die state. A die scratch in the field west of the lowest left branch of the right tree serves as a diagnostic marker. Stage B mid-die state and Stage C late die state remain unconfirmed. This variety can be found in Westward Journey Sets, adding a collectible dimension for set builders. The strong spread on the tree branches makes this one of the more visually dramatic doubled die reverses on the Bison design, where the organic shapes of branches and trunk amplify displacement into clearly recognizable extra elements.
