Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 2005-P Jefferson Nickel Bison reverse exhibits hub doubling with a minor DDO on IN GOD WE TRUST that is too subtle to list separately. Die markers UVC-1566 / DMR-011 track three stages: Stage A at EDS with the reverse confirmed and the minor DDO noted; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The SMS notation indicates this variety can be found in Westward Journey Sets, the special packaging program that accompanied the 2004-2005 nickel redesign commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition. The Bison reverse, designed by Jamie Franki, depicts the American bison in profile and was used only in 2005 as part of the two-year Westward Journey series. Struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm at the Philadelphia Mint. The limited one-year-only reverse design constrains the total possible DDR population for this variety.
