Description

Appearing on the Westward Journey Bison reverse design, DDR-005 on the 2005-P Jefferson Nickel shows extra thickness on the trees with very strong spread concentrated on one area of foliage in the right tree. The localized intensity on a single foliage section, contrasted with more general thickening elsewhere, suggests the hub contact produced its strongest displacement along a specific axis intersecting the right tree. VarietyVista catalogs this variety as UVC-1565 and DMR-010, with Stage A documenting both reverse and obverse in early die state, while Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. This variety can be found in Mint Sets, where coins received the satin finish applied to uncirculated sets during the 2005 to 2010 period. The 2005 Bison reverse, designed by Jamie Franki, was one of two special reverses issued that year as part of the Westward Journey Nickel Series commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition bicentennial. Doubled die varieties on this limited-run design attract strong collector interest due to the single-year production window.
