2005 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Found on Satin Finish specimens from 2005 U.S. Mint uncirculated sets, DDR-003 on the Jefferson Nickel Bison reverse captures a doubled die variety on Jamie Franki's Westward Journey design depicting the American bison. The Satin Finish surface treatment applied to mint set coins from 2005 through 2010 produced a distinctive matte luster that differs markedly from both standard business strikes and mirror-finish proofs, and doubled die diagnostics can present differently against this texture. Die markers cataloged as UVC-1563 and DMR-008 identify three die states: Stage A with both the reverse and obverse in early die state, plus unconfirmed Stage B and Stage C in mid-die and late die states.
