2005-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

Struck at the Denver Mint, this 2005-D Lincoln Memorial cent features doubling on the central left side of the seventh Memorial column and on the left side of the statue's right leg as viewed from the observer's perspective. The Wexler Team attributed this variety as WDDR-002, and it is cross-referenced in the Crawford catalog as CDDR-001. Column seven and statue-leg doubling together create a compound visual effect where both architectural and figural elements of the Memorial reverse show displacement from the same hub misalignment event. Obverse die markers include a die gouge to the left of the top of the D mint mark. On the reverse, a small die gouge is present to the right of the upper N in CENT, and another small die gouge appears above the right Memorial base. These markers authenticate the specific die pair and help distinguish WDDR-002 from other 2005-D doubled die reverses.
