Description

Exhibiting medium spread in the northwest direction, DDR-014 manifests as an extra column number 7 (measured hand to foot) and a doubled knee on the Lincoln Memorial reverse of the 2004 Philadelphia Mint cent. The Memorial's architectural columns, rendered in fine detail on Frank Gasparro's reverse design, are among the most common locations for detecting doubled die effects on this series because their thin vertical lines readily reveal even minor positional displacement. Die markers tracked under UVC-2886 and DMR-017 document three die stages: Stage A with both reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B at Mid-Die State (unconfirmed), and Stage C at Late Die State (also unconfirmed). The 2004 date places this variety near the end of the Memorial Cent's run — the design would be retired after 2008 in favor of the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial reverses.
