2004 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-011

Description

Documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2883 and DMR-014, DDR-011 on the 2004 Lincoln Memorial Cent exhibits medium spread East on the lower portion of column #6, specifically from the knee area to the pedestal of the Lincoln Memorial. Three die stages have been recorded: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed), Stage B shows a small die chip on upper column #1 at mid-die-state (MDS) along with a die crack on Lincoln's forehead on the obverse also at MDS, and Stage C is late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The Stage B diagnostics are particularly useful — the die chip on column #1 and the forehead die crack together provide two independent, non-doubling confirmation points for this specific die pair. The medium eastward spread on column #6 from knee to pedestal places the doubling in the lower-center zone of Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse, where the fine vertical column lines offer clear displacement reference surfaces. Column #6, counting from left to right, falls in the right portion of the memorial facade, and the knee-to-pedestal range indicates the doubling is concentrated in the lower half of that column rather than spanning its full height. The 2004 Lincoln Memorial Cent was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in copper-plated zinc composition (2.500 grams, 19.05 mm diameter), with Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait on the obverse. As DDR-011, this variety represents one of numerous documented reverse doubled dies for the 2004 date, reflecting the substantial die population required for Philadelphia's high-volume cent production.
