2001 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Replacing an earlier "wavy steps" listing that was subsequently reclassified, WDDR-001 stands as the primary doubled die reverse for the 2001 Lincoln Memorial Cent — the first-numbered DDR for this date following the determination that wavy steps varieties no longer qualify as doubled dies. Doubling manifests on the lower left side of the 7th column to the right of the statue's legs, with light doubling also visible between the statue's legs — diagnostics that place the primary spread on the architectural interior of the Memorial where the seated Lincoln statue provides the focal reference point. Obverse die markers show nothing significant, but the reverse reveals a small die gouge dot to the right of the bottom of the 12th column and another small die gouge dot to the left of the lower G in FG (Frank Gasparro's designer initials).
