Description

Thirty-sixth in the VarietyVista doubled die reverse sequence for the 2001 Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-036 presents a medium spread west as an extra column number 7, visible from the hand down to the pedestal. Die markers UVC-3281 and DMR-038 identify the specific die, with die state documentation showing Stage A where both reverse and obverse are at Early Die State, while Stage B (Mid Die State) and Stage C (Late Die State) remain unconfirmed. The hand-to-pedestal range indicates the doubled column image extends across most of the seventh column's visible length, making this a relatively complete expression of column doubling compared to varieties where the spread is confined to a shorter segment such as knee-to-pedestal or shoulder-to-knee. Column 7, positioned to the right of the seated Lincoln statue, is the most frequently doubled column across all Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR varieties, likely because its position near the design center corresponds to an area where small rotational or lateral hub shifts produce the greatest absolute displacement. The 2001 date was one of the later years in the Memorial reverse's nearly fifty-year production run, and with 36+ documented DDR varieties from VarietyVista alone — not counting Wexler's WDDR designations — this date demonstrates the remarkable depth of doubled die documentation on the denomination.
