2001 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-024

Description

An extra column number 7 extending from elbow to ankle and an extra knee visible between the existing knees of the Lincoln Memorial statue — DDR-024 on the 2001 Lincoln Memorial Cent presents its medium westward spread through architectural elements that demand careful examination. VarietyVista assigned UVC-3269 and DMR-026, documenting three stages: Stage A with reverse and obverse at Early Die State, Stage B and Stage C at Mid and Late Die States respectively, both unconfirmed. The statue within the Memorial provides some of the most dramatic doubled die diagnostics in the Lincoln Cent series because the small seated figure's columns, limbs, and chair create fine reference lines where hub displacement generates visible extra elements. Philadelphia struck approximately 4.96 billion Lincoln Memorial Cents in 2001, a production volume that generated twenty-four or more distinct DDR dies for this date alone. The westward medium spread direction indicates a Class I or Class III hub doubling where the secondary impression displaced to the west, creating the phantom column and knee that characterize this variety. Column number 7 (counting from the viewer's left) sits in the right-center portion of the Memorial facade, and the extra column from elbow to ankle describes a partial ghost image of a structural element that is unique to this die's specific hub displacement vector. Confirmed Early Die State in Stage A means this doubling was present from the die's first impressions, making early-stage specimens potentially available across the full production run of this particular die.
