2001 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-010
Error
Description
Tenth in the doubled die reverse catalog for the 2001 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cent, DDR-010 presents a medium spread northeast manifesting as an extra set of feet between the legs of the Lincoln statue inside the Memorial. This is one of the more distinctive patterns on Memorial Cents — rather than producing a ghost column or thickened lettering, the northeast displacement creates phantom feet between the figure's legs, as if Lincoln's statue were caught mid-stride. Medium classification means the extra feet are clearly visible under moderate magnification. The 2001 Lincoln Cent was struck at Philadelphia in copper-plated zinc, without a mintmark as was standard for Philadelphia cents before 2017. Die markers include UVC-3001 and DMR-012. Three die stages document the die's service life: Stage A places both reverse and obverse at Early Die State, while Stage B at Mid Die State and Stage C at Late Die State remain unconfirmed. Confirmed Early Die State provides collectors with the clearest impression of the extra feet before die wear softens the secondary image. The extra-feet pattern makes DDR-010 a visually engaging variety in the Memorial Cent doubled die catalog.
