Description
The 1999 (D) Susan B. Anthony Dollar was struck at the Denver Mint as a dollar in the Susan B. Anthony Dollars 1979-1999 series. With a mintage of 11.8 million, this is a scarce issue — the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features Susan B. Anthony facing right, the first woman depicted on a U.S. circulating coin and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon, adapted from the Apollo 11 mission patch. Briefly revived to meet demand for dollar coins in transit and vending while the Sacagawea Dollar was being designed. The 1999-P Wide Rim variety is a sought-after modern rarity. The Denver Mint, which grew from an 1860s gold rush assay office, has served as a major production facility since 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $1 to $4 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 75% copper, 25% nickel over a pure copper center, weighing 8.1 grams, 26.5 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9582.
