Description

Rotated counterclockwise, the medium-spread doubling on DDR-006 creates a double extra column #7 running parallel to the hand and upper arm of the seated Lincoln figure within the Memorial reverse — a distinctive architectural ghost that catches the eye even at moderate magnification. Die markers tracked under UVC-3017 and DMR-007 establish three stages: Stage A with both reverse and obverse at Early-to-Mid Die State, followed by Stage B at Mid Die State (unconfirmed) and Stage C at Late Die State (unconfirmed). Denver struck 6,360,065,000 Lincoln Memorial Cents in 1999, one of the highest single-mint cent outputs in United States history, reflecting the enormous demand for circulating coinage as the millennium approached. The CCW rotational spread is characteristic of a hub that was slightly rotated relative to the die during impression, creating doubling that increases in magnitude further from the center of rotation. Frank Gasparro's Memorial interior with its twelve columns and seated statue provides a geometrically precise canvas where even subtle rotational displacement produces visible doubled architectural elements. Cataloged by VarietyVista, DDR-006 joins an extensive catalog of 1999-D Lincoln Memorial doubled dies that emerged from this massive production run.
