1998 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Sharing the same RDV-007 reverse die variety designation as the 2000 DDR-007 and DDR-009 in this batch, the VarietyVista-cataloged 1998 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-003 exhibits a medium spread to the west, creating an extra column at position number 7 in the area between the hand and shin of the seated Lincoln statue within the Memorial. The "hand to shin" zone differs from the 2000 DDR-007's "knee to shin" and DDR-009's "shin to foot" locations — all three document column-based doubling at column 7 but at different vertical positions along the figure, reflecting distinct hub displacement on separate working dies. Die markers UVC-3051 and DMR-005 identify this specific working die. Three die stages are documented: Stage A with reverse and obverse in early die state, Stage B tentatively in mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C tentatively in late die state (unconfirmed). Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse provides twelve columns of fine architectural detail ideal for detecting directional hub displacement. This Philadelphia Mint regular strike was produced in copper-plated zinc. Examine the column 7 area at the hand-to-shin level for the medium-intensity westward ghost column.
