Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, the 1998 Lincoln Memorial Cent DDR-002 presents a light spread to the east manifesting as an extra column at position number 6 in the area between the hand and foot of the seated Lincoln statue within Frank Gasparro's Memorial reverse. The Lincoln Memorial's twelve columns provide an ideal architectural framework for detecting hub displacement — when the secondary impression shifts east, ghost columns appear alongside the originals, and DDR-002's eastward spread creates this effect at column 6 spanning the hand-to-foot zone. Die markers UVC-3007 and DMR-004 identify the working die, which carries the reverse die variety designation RDV-007. Three die stages are documented: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed), Stage B with the reverse in mid-die state and the obverse in early-to-mid die state, and Stage C tentatively in late die state (unconfirmed). This Philadelphia Mint regular strike was produced in copper-plated zinc — the standard cent composition since 1982. The hand-to-foot span at column 6 distinguishes this variety from other column-based Lincoln Memorial DDRs that affect different columns or different vertical zones of the seated figure. Examine the column 6 area between the statue's hand and foot for the eastward ghost column to confirm the DDR-002 attribution.
