1997-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-022

Description

Twenty-second doubled die reverse for the 1997 Denver Lincoln Memorial Cent, WDDR-022 manifests as a bar extending from the upper hand to the middle of the leg on the right side of the Lincoln statue within the seventh column bay. This doubling on the statue's interior figure is among the most sought-after locations for Memorial Cent doubled dies because the small-scale architectural detail amplifies any displacement into a visible anomaly. Obverse markers include a die chip above the Y of LIBERTY, a die chip in the field at the back of Lincoln's head, and a die chip above the right-side top of the 7 in the date, plus a small die dot left of the upper mintmark. No reverse markers were noted beyond the doubling itself. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1997-D 1-cent WDDR-022. The cluster of four obverse die chips across dispersed locations provides a robust multi-point attribution system independent of the reverse doubling, allowing confirmation even on specimens where the statue detail may be partially worn.
