Description

The 1996 (P) Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games High Jump Proof Dollar is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 124,502 examples. Part of the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games program, this dollar depicts the revolutionary Fosbury Flop technique that transformed high jumping after Dick Fosbury's gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. The obverse features a female athlete performing the Fosbury Flop high jump technique, arching over the bar in mid-jump, while the reverse displays the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games torch logo with 'Centennial Olympic Games'. Designed by Calvin Massey/Thomas D. Rogers. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9731. The high jump dollar's dynamic arching figure is one of the most aesthetically striking designs in the Atlanta Olympic program.
