Description

The 1996 (D) Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games Rowing Dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, is part of the Modern Commemorative Dollars (1982-Date) collection. With a mintage of 16,693, this is a scarce issue β€” the scarcer of two mint variants, with 10% of total production. The obverse features designs varying by commemorative issue, authorized by Congress to honor significant American events, people, and institutions and the reverse displays designs varying by commemorative issue. Struck after the transition from silver to clad coinage, as the Mint adapted to modern production methods and record-breaking mintages. Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Auction record: $1,006 MS70 09-02-2003 Heritage Auctions. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 26.73 grams, 38.1 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9728.
