Description
The 1995 (W) Proof Civil War Battlefield Preservation Commemorative Five Dollar Gold is a proof commemorative dollar struck at the West Point Mint. The U.S. Mint produced 55,246 examples. The gold coin in the 1995 Civil War Battlefield program, all three coin designs were created by Don Troiani, one of America's foremost Civil War artists. The obverse features a Civil War bugler on horseback sounding a call to the troops, while the reverse displays a bald eagle clutching a banner reading 'Let Us Protect and Preserve'. Designed by Don Troiania/Alfred Maletsky. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 8.36 grams, 21.6 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9703. The Civil War $5 gold's mounted bugler is a dynamic equestrian composition, and the entire program is notable for being designed by a single renowned military artist.
